In almost every tattoo shop there are a lots of books available with a lot of great drawings and designs from which you can choose to get your body inked. These drawings en designs are pretty meaningless most of the time and people only choose them because they like them. There is nothing wrong with that, but a tattoo becomes much more beautiful and important when it means something more to you.

A good example is one of my own: When I got engaged, me and my boyfriend both got the chinese sign for the word love tattooed. When we are getting married we are going to get another symbol tattooed in stead of wedding rings! This gives our tattoos an extra meaning, because we will think about our wedding every time we look at it.

The same thing goes for names of your kids, special dates, portraits of your loved ones, pets or even idols, tributes to your (deceased) loved ones (their name, portrait or a symbol) and so on...

Even a nice drawing of your zodiac is more meaningful than a random tattoo design. You can combine these things really nice as well, like getting a fairy tattooed with the name of your daughter or something like that.

Another special thing, when you are a great fan of a football team or rock band, is to tattoo their logo (like the Red Hot Chili Peppers logo for instance). But this is only for the die-hard fans, otherwise you are probably going to regret it later.

This is the same when you want to get a name inked, other than one of your kids names, (your partners name for instance). You should think about it really carefully because there is a chance that you will regret it later on in your life!
